P.H. Brazier

Paul Brazier lives in Wimbledon, London, England.

Born in Evesham, Worcestershire (1954) into a market gardening family, he worked for the Forestry Commission on Bredon Hill and the North Cotswolds; after graduating from art college he went into teaching. He married Hilary Whitworth in 1983. We have lived in an Edwardian terraced house in Wimbledon since 1985, and attended a C of E church here since 1982; however, we were received into the Roman Catholic Church, at Sacred Heart, Edge Hill, Wimbledon, on December 2, 2021.

He holds degrees in Fine Art (B.A. 1977), Education (M.Phil. 1990), and Systematic Theology (M.A. 2001 and Ph.D. 2005, King’s College London). His doctoral work focused on the influence of Dostoevsky on the young Karl Barth’s doctrine of sin and atonement (Barth & Dostoevsky, Paternoster 2008). He has taught extensively at a variety of institutions from the late 1970s on. Originally teaching in British Art Colleges over thirty years ago (Art History and Education, Heinemann 1985), he moved into inner-city urban priority area primary school teaching on South London estates following on from becoming a Christian in 1980. He is the editor of the late Colin E. Gunton's The Barth Lectures (Continuum, T&T Clark, 2007) and Revelation and Reason: Prolegomena to Systematic Theology (Continuum, T&T Clark, 2009); he has also published numerous articles and reviews in theological and philosophical journals. Paul recently published an in-depth systematic analysis of C.S. Lewis's theology (C.S. Lewis: Revelation and the Christ, 5 vols., Wipf and Stock, 2012-2014).

Recently he undertook the graphic design work for the production of Perelandra the Opera in Oxford; also the design work and typesetting for the Journal of Inklings Studies, The Evangelical Review, The Journal of Messianic Jewish Studies, and other journals.

Paul Brazier is the full-time caregiver for his wife Hilary, who has severe epilepsy.
